India Criticizes Trump-Shared Remarks as “Uninformed, In Poor Taste”

(MENAFN) India has strongly criticized remarks described as “hellhole” comments that were reshared by US President Donald Trump, calling them “uninformed, inappropriate” and in “poor taste,” according to the Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

As stated by reports, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India had taken note of both the comments and a subsequent clarification issued by the US Embassy. “The remarks are obviously uninformed, inappropriate and in poor taste,” he said.

The controversy followed Trump sharing comments on his social media platform Truth Social that were originally made by conservative commentator Michael Savage. In those remarks, Savage made broad claims about immigration, referring to India and other countries in disparaging terms while discussing citizenship and integration in the United States.

The comments also included claims about language use and loyalty among immigrant communities, which were widely circulated after being reposted by Trump.

Jaiswal added that such statements do not represent the broader relationship between India and the United States, which he described as being built on “mutual respect and shared interests.”

Meanwhile, the US Embassy in New Delhi responded by emphasizing positive ties between the two countries, stating: “The President has said India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top.”
