Ukraine Reports Injuries in Russian Drone Attack

(MENAFN) At least 30 individuals sustained injuries following an alleged Russian attack on a railway station and passenger trains in Shostka, located in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region, Ukrainian officials reported Saturday.

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko described the assault as “a double targeted strike,” impacting both the railway station and the trains themselves.

“Rescuers, medics, and railway workers are working at the scene -- they are helping the victims and assessing the extent of the damage,” she said.

Svyrydenko accused Moscow of intentionally targeting civilian infrastructure and densely populated areas.

“The world has no right to ignore it. Ukraine needs more air defense systems, tougher sanctions against Russia, and decisive actions from partners. Only this can stop Russian terror and save people’s lives,” she stressed.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also denounced the attack, labeling it “a savage Russian drone strike.”

“The Russians could not have been unaware that they were striking civilians. This is terror the world must not ignore,” Zelenskyy said, noting that at least 30 people, including Ukrzaliznytsia railway staff and passengers, were wounded.

He called on Ukraine’s allies to transform their “resolute statements” into tangible measures, emphasizing that “lip service is not enough now -- strong action is needed.”

The Ukrainian national railway company confirmed earlier that a drone struck a passenger train on the Shostka-Kyiv route.

Russia has yet to respond to the allegations.
