ICC Legislative denounces US sanctions on Court officials
In its statement, the ICC legislative body opposed the sanctions imposed on two judges and deputy prosecutors, saying:
"These measures, in addition to earlier designations of elected officials, are regrettable attempts to impede the Court and its personnel in the exercise of their independent judicial functions."
The U.S. State Department announced the sanctions Wednesday, citing the officials’ roles in efforts to prosecute U.S. and Israeli citizens. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the ICC as "an instrument of lawfare" against the two countries.
Similar sanctions were applied earlier this year to ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan and other officials.
